Amputation of the distal phalanx of the finger of the right hand due to a dog bite and its satisfactory evolution derived from nursing care
Abstract
In Spain, it is estimated that the incidence of dog bites
ranges between 48 and 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants per year. Despite being
an emergency pathology more typical of the public health system, the workplace
does not escape this situation, taking into account that professionals who work
with animals are exposed to it. The clinical case presented is that of a
58-year-old woman, a veterinarian, who suffered a dog bite during her work day,
amputating the distal phalanx of the 2nd finger of her right hand, generating a
blunt incised wound type Allen II with tearing off of the distal half of the
nail bed. The objective is to make known the criteria and nursing actions in
performing cures in the distal phalanx. A qualitative analysis of a study
subject is carried out with a description of the phenomenon studied with a
photographic record of the injury with prior consent from the patient. The
healing technique implemented was based on clinical nursing experience. The
NANDA taxonomy was used for care. It is concluded that performing a cure goes
beyond a mere procedure and is closely related to the professional nursing
experience, relying on the PAE.
